Tech, Fun, and Growth: FLO CX’s Winning Combination

At FLO CX, enhancing team performance and individual growth is crucial to building a successful company. We launched an annual internal achievement contest focused on earning technology certifications while keeping it fun to support this. Being a technology-driven company, we developed a Salesforce & Slack-integrated app to track real-time results. Tomáš Hnízdil, our Head of Salesforce Development, shares more details in his comment below.

Everyone knows that keeping pace with the latest trends through continuous learning and self-development is necessary, especially in the IT and Salesforce industries. However, employees often need help prioritising these activities among a load of other tasks. So, what can we do to increase their motivation?

At FLO CX, we introduced a yearly achievement contest. Not only do we fully support all our team members in learning, getting certified, becoming speakers at technical conferences or other public events, etc., by covering the costs, but we also praise them for their success. Every such activity is scored (based on clear rules considering the activity difficulty, time spent, etc.) and counts against the team leaderboard. And at the end of the year, the people with the most points scored get some lovely prizes.

Fun fact: We haven't spent that much time setting up the scoring rules, but they fit everyone. Among the latest winners, we've got an exceptional (but a bit introverted) learner, a Salesforce community rockstar who doesn't hunt certifications but loves public speaking, and someone who enjoys combining a bit of everything. Simply, everyone can find their path and still succeed in the competition.

As you can see, although I won last year, I have to give it a bit more in the upcoming months.

And where is the technology exploration? Since we are passionate about powerful and efficient solutions, more than an Excel sheet was needed to track the achievements. Instead, we built our very own Slack app, "Success Tracker", integrated with the company Salesforce account, where we track all the data. The app allows everyone to report their direct achievements, ask for Salesforce certification exam vouchers, and get them provided by their managers. It also shows the current leaderboard so everyone can see (and get motivated by) how many points they still need to score to reach the top position.

2023 team results:
  • 14 people acquired a total of 34 certifications

  • 6 TechTalk presenters (+ 1 special guest star) led 13 presentations

  • 3 community conference speakers attended CzechDreamin and French Touch Dreamin

Now, we benefit not only from the great app, which helps everyone on the team but also from all the experience and expertise we gained when researching and building the Slack app. We are by far more qualified to develop more such apps in future, either internally or for our clients. We also have our very own Slack development expert, Ibrahim Nurazkhan.

Of course, we always look forward and want to bring more improvements. So, what will the following steps be with the app? Maybe AI can be included to automatically recommend personalised goals for each user. The app can be operated with voice recognition. We don’t know yet. But it will undoubtedly be something cool.
